New Year, New Things

Dear Readers,

I’ve sorta fallen out of the habit of posting if you haven’t noticed. I had a hard December. I’ll try to recap it for you quickly. I’m first going to say sorry for the long wait. I didn’t mean for it to be so long between posts. I’m going to try to post 2 times each month this year. That’s two less a month than last year, but I didn’t have a job last year.

Alright, time for the December recap. I was moved to 2nd shift very soon after my last post. I worked 2nd shift until the Christmas layoff. I worked in conversion in the warehouse. The work was lighter and slower paced like the rework I’d done earlier in the year there. Midwest MTD in Willard, lays people off each year for about 4 weeks for Christmas and they have a changeover at that time. I had a nice Christmas but was excited to get back to work. I didn’t waste any time inventing work. I painted the back wall of the church sanctuary and caulked all the windows. Moving on to January. I was waiting on January 19th to be called back, because that was the time most people would be called back. I received a call from a Spherion representative from MTD Shelby Operations. Spherion is the flexible labor force manager (Temp Service) that I am employed through. Ashley, the rep, told me that MTD Shelby Op. had a few openings if I wanted to get back on the job quicker. She then preceded to tell me that Midwest MTD Willard wasn’t going to be calling people back until Febuary at least. I have heard recently they are laying off full time employees because of the economy. So the short of it is that I’m working for MTD again under Spherion. I’m also working 1st at 8 hours a shift which I’m very glad to be back to 1st. I did take a rate cut but I can live with it. I’m driving 29.6 miles to work each day which is only 2 miles more than before. I can get there faster though since I don’t pick anyone up and I can use all main highways.

MTD Shelby Op. makes and distributes OEM parts for MTD products. I can’t believe the speed and efficiency of the plant. They work faster than Willard, but still mange to keep the production area cleaner and quieter. I’m really enjoying working there so far.

Well, I think that’s all for this post as my fingers are getting quite cold.
